Take a look at our extensive car rental location map to find the best rental cars near you.
Roatan Island is rather rural and does not have an extensive public transportation system that connects most areas. Because of this, it is best to rent a car in order to move throughout the island. You will also be able to move around on your own schedule. Having your own vehicle will not only make it easy to visit different sights but will also allow you to easily transport your luggage and any recreational equipment you may need for going to the beach or taking a bike ride.
Roatan Island has many small, narrow, and winding streets, so you will want to pay as much attention as possible when driving. The roads also have quite a few potholes and are not well-lit, so you will want to make sure that you drive slowly and with caution. Make sure to pay particular attention if you are driving during the rain, as the roads tend to become particularly slippery and it may be extra difficult to see.
If you would like to rent a car on Roatan Island, you will need to be a minimum of 21 years old. Keep in mind that if you are between the ages of 21 and 25, you may be required to pay an additional fee to your rental agency for each day of your rental period. In addition to being at least 21 years old, you will need to have a valid driver's license for the duration of your rental period, as well as your passport. The company that you are renting with will likely need to make a copy of your passport to keep with your file.
